[1] All kinds of good information
----------------------------------
Where can you go or who can you ask if you want to find out information about TAPPED IN? Our main web page is a great place to go. We've recently updated it with new information too!

On our main web page are links to the Events Calendar, the schedule of office hours held in TAPPED IN, our NEW mailing lists (announced last newsletter), general information about TAPPED IN and all of its partners, and links to our feedback surveys. Also, if you ever need more information, don't hesitate to email us. Our contact information is also on the website.

[2] How to find stuff in TAPPED IN
----------------------------------
We've added a new search feature to TAPPED IN. Type the command FIND text to search for all objects with text in their name or among their aliases. If text is more than one word, objects with any of the words in them are returned. To find phrases, put quotes around the words. For example, if you type: FIND el nino

   Searching for: el nino
   ... searching ...
   Found 7 instances.

      Objects | Room Location | Container/Holder    ---------------|------------------- | ----------------    12/9/97 El Nino| | Judi    ASO 11/3 El Nin| After School Online| Video Tapes    el nino | | Judi    El Nino Project| | Judi    El Nino Resourc| | Judi    EL NINO SLIDE | | MaryPat    El Nino Websit | After School Online| Shelf    -------------- | ------------------ | -----------------

If you see an object you want that is listed on a person, this is a perfect excuse to make a new friend and find the information you want.

Type HELP FIND for more information. You can also use SEARCH El Nino (instead of find).

[5] TAPPED IN Exclusive
------------------------
The Pros and Cons of Technology in the Classroom - a debate.

The debate over the value and role of computing technology in K-12 classrooms rages on. Nationally recognized experts on the subject, Dr. Roy Pea and Dr. Larry Cuban, offer their insights in this transcript of speeches each gave to a gathering of organizations that fund school reform projects. Roy Pea is Director of the Center for Technology in Learning, SRI International. He was formerly Dean of the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. He is currently on the National Academy of Science's Committee on Developments in the Sciences of Learning. Larry Cuban is a Professor of Education at Stanford University. He is author of Teachers and Machines: The Classroom Use of Technology Since 1920 and co-author of Tinkering Toward Utopia : A Century of Public School Reform (with David Tyack).

Read what they have to say; visit http://www.tappedin.org/info/teachers/debate.html and then tell us what you think! We'll share your input with Drs. Cuban and Pea, and ask them
to respond to your comments. If we receive enough feedback from you, we'll invite them to lead a LIVE session on this subject in TAPPED IN.

Here's how to post your thoughts and questions on our Hypernews BulletinBoard:
