Where can you go or who can you ask if you want to find out information about TAPPED IN? Our main web page is a great place to go. We've recently updated it with new information too!
On our main web page are links to the Events Calendar, the schedule of office hours held in TAPPED IN, our NEW mailing lists (announced last newsletter), general information about TAPPED IN and all of its partners, and links to our feedback surveys. Also, if you ever need more information, don't hesitate to email us. Our contact information is also on the website.

We've added a new search feature to TAPPED IN. Type the command FIND text to search for all objects with text in their name or among their aliases. If text is more than one word, objects with any of the words in them are returned. To find phrases, put quotes around the words. For example, if you type: FIND el nino

Come and join the Math Forum at TAPPED IN. Here are the topics for the Math Forum discussion times at TAPPED IN for the month of April. All grade levels are welcome.
April 20 - 4:00pm PST
A discussion on concrete applications of math. Bring at least one example to share with the group. How many times have you asked where math is being used in the real-world? Let's get some answers.
April 27 - 4:00pm PST
Let's discuss ways to bring math history into your math class. Math History is often left out of the curriculum when teaching math concepts. What are some easy ways to bring some context into the concepts.

The Pros and Cons of Technology in the Classroom - a debate.
The debate over the value and role of computing technology in K-12 classrooms rages on. Nationally recognized experts on the subject, Dr. Roy Pea and Dr. Larry Cuban, offer their insights in this transcript of speeches each gave to a gathering of organizations that fund school reform projects. Roy Pea is Director of the Center for Technology in Learning, SRI International. He was formerly Dean of the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. He is currently on the National Academy of Science's Committee on Developments in the Sciences of Learning. Larry Cuban is a Professor of Education at Stanford University. He is author of Teachers and Machines: The Classroom Use of Technology Since 1920 and co-author of Tinkering Toward Utopia : A Century of Public School Reform (with David Tyack).

An Invitation to Internet-using teachers---Announcing an opportunity to shine in the Spotlight! Select from your portfolio the BEST lesson in which you used the Web as a curriculum resource, and submit it to the ED's Oasis MasterSearch lesson plan design contest!
WHO: Any classroom teacher, librarian, or instructional staff member currently teaching in elementary or secondary schools.
WHY: To celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of exceptional teachers and to establish a collection of exemplary lessons (involving the use of ED's Oasis Treasure Zone web sites) which can be shared with teachers around the world.
WHAT: Entrants must submit a complete lesson plan, or provide the location of a lesson they have published on the World Wide Web.
WHEN: The deadline for entering the contest is MAY 30, 1998. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in San Diego, June 23.

Come share your expertise with Preservice teachers in an Open House in TAPPED IN. Preservice Teachers in a Technology for Teaching and Learning class from Michigan State will be online sharing their online portfolios with you. The Open House is Monday April 20, 1998 from 4-7pm PST.
Don't forget about NECC (the National Educational Computing Conference). It's in San Diego June 22-24, 1998. Register now for it! TAPPED IN has a hands-on workshop Monday morning, and an hour long discussion session on Tuesday. More news to follow next month!
